Au Naturel

On going project

From French “AU NATUREL” (in the natural state).

Adj. 1. Nude. 2. Naturally. 3. In the plainest or simplest manner.

Au Naturel was born from my observations about what is socially accepted as beautiful and presentable in the places I’ve lived. My project is a reflection on the posture we take before others and how we believe we are perceived.

My intention is to capture the first image of a person’s day before the layers of artifice are put in place. Through this simple act, I take the subject out of his or her context to capture a reality without layers or masks, obtaining complete trust through photography.

While researching this project, other relevant themes began to surface: authenticity and vulnerability. This allowed me to broaden my focus from a narrative about society to one that explores identity in its natural state.
